This solid carbide bit cuts from the surface down leaving a smooth edge at the surface. It is great for materials like veneer and MDF where rough surfaces materials can be left behind by the cutting action. Unlike a standard up cut bit, this down cut end mill pushes the chips downward to minimize tear out.
